Gnat Hatcher (OR) + Pay No Mind + Poverty Porn
Sunday, June 30 // Door at 7 PM // Show at 7:30 PM // $10 GA // $15-$20 Artist Supporter Formed in Portland in 2022, Gnat Hatcher is Jamie Brito, Chance St George, and Gray Hunter. After releasing the single Obliterate/Woozy, the trio began work on their upcoming album, today is close (due out June 2024). Their blend of noise rock and post-hardcore is unapologetic in intensity. The music takes notes from the standard bearers of the past – Unwound, Shellac, and Slint, while delivering a contemporary sound that is uniquely their own. Poverty Porn was born in 2016, after bass player Anthony and guitarist Kye’s previous incarnation, Deadbeats, was ruthlessly made fun of for being the same name as local Grateful Dead rap cover artists in the Chicago area while on tour. With the new name came a newer sound, faster and more aggressive than Deadbeats, with lyrical changes shifting from personal experiences with addiction to the general fed-up-ness with the world around them. The band has only gotten tighter and more sonically punishing with age, although most recordings were bootleg, practice space quality. This finally changed in 2022 when Nataanii (of Fuuls) professionally put together the latest EP, “Upper-middle-class-softcore”, finally matching up the bands attitude on stage and in recorded media. Upper Middle Class Softcore was released on Jan 6th, 2023, and can be found on all streaming services. Poverty Porn is a BIPOC centered band, Kye belonging to the Meskwaki First Nation (Iowa), Anthony being Puerto Rican, and a drummer or two in the rotating cast of drummers also being of color. Pay No Mind is a skate punk band with hardcore and thrash influences consisting of former members of Stoned to Death and Super Sport (Great Falls). They have taken Missoula by storm opening for touring bands and supporting the local music scene. Showcasing an oxymoron even in the name, that our doom would indeed be blessid. Having come from modest means Blessiddoom aims to be a voice for the shunned, the societal outcasts or the metal head that was always told they would grow out of it. With lyrics that can be seen as quite serious, Blessiddoom does not take themselves too seriously, ultimately just wanting to have the best parties we can while we are still here. “We don’t have a lot of time on this earth, we weren’t meant to spend it this way.” At Home in Hell blazes a trail through the metal scene with their explosive sound, fusing elements of thrash, groove, and hardcore into a relentless sonic assault. Hailing from Great Falls, their music embodies raw intensity and unapologetic authenticity, carving out a niche as a powerhouse in the metal underground. Based out of Missoula, Elephant Graveyard formed as a band in 2020. Having toured the Cascade region extensively the band has roots to call home in both Spokane Washington and Eugene Oregon. It’s a difficult project to pigeonhole into one genre having a tangible range from hardcore, crust, sludge to horrorcore, hip-hop & spoken word. It’s an amalgamation of tension presented in an engaging, viscerally determined, often self-violent live show that’s difficult to look away from. The band has found their home in the broader DIY circuit and is scheduled to release their debut full length via Blackhouse Records in 2024. Spooky is not a band; a body. Infinite Ammo banded together at the beginning of Covid and started a band that would soon be known for their weird sound that collides powerviolence/grindcore/death metal/hardcore punk into one giant mass of sound. On April 12, 2022, Watson announced he had departed the band and on June 2 2022, touring vocalist Travis Worland was announced as the band’s new permanent vocalist.Inferi is melodic death metal out of Nashville. Formed from the ashes of Death Looks Promising. According to Malcom Pugh, the band names comes from the Harry Potter series, in which Inferi are corpses that have been reanimated by a dark wizard’s curse. Crown Magnetar is a 4-piece technical deathcore band based in Colorado, USA. Forming in 2017, Crown independently released their debut EP and album, The Prophet of Disgust (2018) and The Codex of Flesh (2020) before signing with Unique Leader Records in 2021. Cloe joined on vocals and they played their first show that fall. Destiny Bond recorded the 6-song 2021 Demo on Convulse Records (GEL, MSPAINT, Militarie Gun, Dazy) in October ‘21 in Denver, and Emily joined the band on second guitar shortly after. The band continued to play in Colorado, before hitting some weekend tours in mid-2022 with dates featuring Twin Tombs, Candy Apple, and Spy. Summer 2023 saw the release of Be My Vengeance, followed by a tour to the East Coast in July featuring Spine on select dates. Be My Vengeance fully encapsulates the fast, early punk and hardcore inspired sound of the first 2 years of Destiny Bond, with moments that foreshadow what’s to come.
